Family Education and InformationCLEAN, Inc. provides educational and skill-building classes to help parents guide their children through the adolescent passage with positive ways to set limits and communicate effectively. We also offer a variety of programs to assist youth in making positive life choices. The goal of our family programs is to decrease risk factors that lead to problem behaviors (substance abuse, teen pregnancy, school dropout, violence, delinquency) and to increase protective factors in the family and community. Connecting Teens & Parents Program:
This program, which is based on Scott Sells, PhD., “Parenting with Love and Limits: A 7 Step Program for Difficult Teenagers,” provides educational and skill-building classes for teens (12-17 years old) and parents. Parents and teens attend six 2-hour sessions on selected Mondays from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Contact CLEAN to schedule an enrollment appointment before admission in this class. (Sliding scale fees apply.) Session One: Learning to identify “Why teens misbehave! Why parents misbehave!” Expressing parent and teen current feelings and frustrations. Session Two: Learning about your parent and teen “hot button.” Underlying motives of button pushing and activities that teach “button busting.” Session Three: Introduction to writing contracts between parent and teen. Improving communication between parent and teen. Session Four: Troubleshooting your contract and developing positive and negative consequences. Developing ironclad rules. Session Five: Developing a “Positive Teen Report,” learning to deal with the Seven Aces teens use. Completing contracts. Additional activities for teens provided. Session Six: Identifying five toxic behaviors that poison your relationship with your teen. Learning strategies to restore love and nurturance. Staying Connected with Your
Teen (Offered in English and Spanish): This six-week parenting program covers the following topics: Session One— Identifying risk factors, physical, intellectual, social changes in teen, bothersome behaviors Session Two— Protective Factors, Communication Skills, Establishing a Family Policy Session Three— Family Meetings, Parenting Styles, Family Decision Making, Developing a Contract with Your Teen, Spotting Roadblocks Along the Way Session Four— Drugs, Alcohol and Other Harmful Substances Session Five— Chores and Contributions, Positive and Negative Consequences, Begin Writing Loophole-Free Contract Session Six-- Supervision, Your Teens Personal Network, Completing Your Loophole-Free Contract, Teen Parties Alcohol & Drug EducationDesigned for youth (12-17 years old), this hands-on experience provides educational information on the physical and psychological consequences of using alcohol and other drugs. Teens attend three 2-hour sessions on selected Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Contact CLEAN to schedule an enrollment appointment before admission in this class. (Sliding scale fees apply.) Session One: Covers risk factors to include age of onset as related to alcohol dependence; family background influences; pro-drug messages in the environment; the effects of substances related to our well-being and mental health; and the cycle and stages of addiction. Session Two: Covers how those that are chemically dependent protect themselves from facing their dependency; what enabling is and how it works; the roles of children of alcoholics. Session Three: Covers various facts and effects of alcohol, marijuana, stimulants, other drugs and tobacco. Anger Management (temporarily suspended)While concentrating on topics such as recognizing feelings, anger signals and hot buttons, youth (12-17 years old) will learn alternatives for getting out of difficult situations and healthy strategies to cope with their anger. All new anger management classes are being held at CLEAN, Inc. Come get a grip on your anger and your future without letting it take over your life. Shoplifting Prevention (temporarily suspended)This program is designed for youth (12-17 years old) and concentrates on areas such as the cost of shoplifting, shoplifting facts and myths, risks vs. rewards, and a plan to stop.
