Winchester — Since she came to Winchester more than 20 years ago, Judy McKiernan has dedicated her time to working with the area’s youth.

Her efforts were rewarded Friday evening at the second annual Community and Law Enforcement Against Narcotics Inc., Community Connections for Youth and Family Meeting and Awards Banquet.

She garnered the James and Shelda Longerbeam Award. The Longerbeams have volunteered with CLEAN since it began in 1986.

“Her focus has always been what’s best for the kids and their families,” James Stevenson, chairman of the Board of Directors, said.

McKiernan grew up in Shreveport, La., attended college in Texas and Illinois, and finally settled in Winchester about 20 years ago.

She now works as Winchester Public Schools’ Safe and Drug Free Schools coordinator.

“I came here very wet behind the ears when I came in 1987,” she said. “I just love what I do for our children. It’s been an honor to work here doing God’s work for our children.”

CLEAN provides leadership through education, advocacy, and networking for a safe, healthy, drug-free community.

The organization engages both youths and older community members through a forum of collaboration among nearly 40 community organizations and agencies.

The banquet was held at Jimmy’s Steak and Seafood in Winchester.
